Have you ever felt that your Windows operating system is running slower and slower? There are actually a number of things you can do to tune up the performance. Here, I give you some concrete tips.
Clean-up Desktop
Clean up your desktop and remove unnecessary icons.
Remove Spywares
Use a tool such as Advanced Windows Care to remove Spywares. This tools actually solves other performance problems as well.
Optimize Registry
Clean up the registry by using the tool part of Advanced Windows Care. A more specialized free tool is Easy Cleaner.
Defrag Hard Drive
Use the Disk Defragmenter available in Windows XP (Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Defragmenter). Some files cannot be defragmented by this tool. As a complement, use DiskDrefag.
Remove start-up programs
First of all, clean out programs that you do not want to start. Remove short-cuts in folder C:\Documents and Settings\username\Start Menu\Programs\Startup, where username is your Windows account user name. Clean out all scheduled tasks that you are not using, by removing short-cuts in folder C:\Windows\Tasks. There are still programs that will automatically start when you boot up your system. A simple way to disable these programs can be done by using the Windows system configuration utility. To launch the tool, run "msconfig" at the command prompt. Under tab Startup, de-select the application that you do not want to start after booting the system. Description of the programs can be found on the net by "googling". Clean-up temp files
Remove temporary files using the tool Disk Cleanup, which is available in Windows XP (Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Cleanup).
